Cabinets, taken off, sprayed flat, rehung.

Cabinet Painting

Painted cabinets fail where they're touched — around handles, along edges, above the stove where steam rises. Wall paint has no business on a cabinet door. So we take doors and drawers off, degrease, sand and bond them, then spray them flat with a cabinet-grade enamel — and the boxes get brushed in place.

It's the slow way, and it's why the finish holds up to daily hands. The kitchen stays usable for most of the work, and every door goes back on its own hinges, adjusted to sit right.

What's included

  • Doors and drawers removed, labelled, degreased, sanded and bonding-primed.
  • Sprayed flat with cabinet-grade enamel — a hard, washable finish with no brush marks.
  • Boxes brushed in place — no dismantling your kitchen.
  • Hardware labelled and rehung; doors adjusted to sit right.
  • Two finish coats over the prepared surface — our standard, unless the written coating spec says otherwise.
  • The kitchen stays usable for most of the work. GST is the only thing added on top of your written price.

What's not included

  • Hinge or hardware replacement — we rehang what you have; new hardware is quoted separately if you want it.
  • Structural repairs to boxes or drawers — flagged in writing if we find them.
  • Factory finishes that can't be painted reliably (some thermofoil and laminate wraps) — we'll tell you straight at the estimate if yours is one of them.
  • Painting the insides of boxes and drawers unless it's in the written scope.

How the job runs

  1. Estimate & finish confirmation

We look at the existing finish, confirm it's paintable, and lock the colour and sheen with real samples — sheen choice matters a lot in kitchens.

  2. Removal & labelling

Doors and drawers come off; every piece and its hardware is labelled so it all goes home exactly.

  3. Degrease & sand

Kitchen grease is the number-one cause of cabinet paint failure. Everything is degreased, sanded and bonding-primed.

  4. Spray

Doors and drawers are sprayed flat with cabinet-grade enamel while the boxes are brushed in place.

  5. Cure, rehang & adjust

Cure time follows the product's data sheet, then everything is rehung and adjusted to sit right — and we walk it through with you.

Products & coating specification

Cabinet enamel — a hard, washable coating formulated for surfaces that get touched daily — over a bonding primer matched to the existing finish. Wall paint is never substituted.

Sheen is confirmed with you at the estimate from real samples: kitchens read differently under cabinet lighting than in daylight, and the formulation matters as much as the sheen name — washability and hardness for the exact product, not a rule of thumb.

Two finish coats is our standard repaint system, unless the written coating specification for your project calls for something different. Cure times follow the manufacturer's data sheet — cabinet coatings harden over days, and we schedule the rehang around that.

Typical timeline

Most kitchens take the better part of a week: removal and prep, spray days, cure time, rehang and adjust. You get the day-by-day plan in writing before we start.

The kitchen stays usable for most of the work — the only real downtime is while doors are off for spraying and curing.

How pricing works

Cabinet pricing follows door and drawer count more than kitchen size — a small kitchen with 30 fronts costs more than a big one with 18.

The estimator gives you a preliminary range in about a minute. Cabinets need the free site visit for a firm written price: we have to see the existing finish to confirm it's paintable and count every front.

What moves the number: the number of doors and drawers, the existing finish (factory coatings need more prep), how far the colour is moving, and hardware handling. The $500 minimum job charge applies; GST is added on top; the approved price stays fixed unless you approve a written change to the scope.

Common questions

Do I need to empty my cabinets?

The boxes, yes — we brush them in place, so they need to be clear. Doors and drawers come off anyway. The kitchen stays usable for most of the work.

What will the finish look like?

Smooth and even — doors are sprayed flat, so no brush marks. The exact product and sheen are confirmed with you from samples at the estimate.

Can you paint laminate or thermofoil cabinets?

Sometimes. Some factory wraps take a bonding system well; some don't, and painting those is money wasted. We test and tell you straight at the estimate — if yours can't be painted reliably, we'd rather lose the job than take it.

How long does cabinet work take?

Most kitchens take the better part of a week — degrease, sand, prime, spray, cure, rehang and adjust. You get the day-by-day plan in writing before we start.

Will the paint chip around the handles?

That's exactly where rushed cabinet jobs fail — and why we degrease, sand, bonding-prime and spray enamel instead of brushing wall paint on. The finish is hard and washable. Like any painted surface it isn't armour, so we leave you labelled touch-up paint.

Do you replace hardware?

We rehang your existing hardware, labelled and adjusted. If you want new handles or hinges, buy them and we'll fit them during the rehang — or we'll quote supplying them separately.

New-kitchen look, no renovation.
