Kensington
Character homes with real heritage detail — original trim, porch posts, century-old wood. We restore as much as we repaint, and we know how to work on houses that are older than the paint industry's modern products.
Service areas
Our home turf — from Kensington character homes to Mahogany new builds.
Calgary is where Huetura lives and works. We paint here every day, in every quadrant: century-old character homes in Kensington and Inglewood, 70s bungalows in the inner suburbs, and new builds stretching from Evanston to Mahogany. No other city in our service area asks for this much range, and honestly, it's why the range is our strength.
Calgary's painting challenges are specific and well-documented: chinooks that swing forty degrees in a day, hail that sandblasts siding, high-altitude UV that fades colour faster than the same paint would fade in Vancouver, and freeze-thaw cycles that punish every shortcut in prep. We spec for all of it — not as upsells, but as the baseline of a paint job that lasts here.
The deal is the same one we offer everywhere: a free visit, physical colour samples tested in your light, and a written price before any work starts. Meisam paints full-time — prep, products and what lasts in Calgary weather are what he does every day, and he'll tell you which is which even when it costs us the job.
Character homes with real heritage detail — original trim, porch posts, century-old wood. We restore as much as we repaint, and we know how to work on houses that are older than the paint industry's modern products.
Calgary's oldest neighbourhood, full of houses with stories and siding with history. Careful prep on old wood, heritage-sensitive colours, and details that honour the street.
The infill capital: century homes beside brand-new builds, often on the same block. We handle both — restoration on the old, crisp modern finishes on the new.
West-side executive homes with high expectations and higher walls. Finish quality is the job here: level-5 smooth walls, razor lines, exteriors that look intentional from the street.
Lake community in the deep southeast — the damp-shade rhythm near the water, young families, and builder-grade interiors ready for real colour.
Lake community in the city's southeast — new builds with modern farmhouse styles; exteriors in whites and charcoals that need proper spec to stay sharp.
Northwest new-build community — two-storeys with big main floors, stairwells, and primary suites. Whole-home colour flow planned across open plans.
Established northwest community on the hill — wind exposure, big views, and homes hitting their second exterior cycle. West walls get the fade-resistant spec.
New-urbanist streetscapes with front porches and heritage-styled details. The charm is in the trim work — we paint it like it matters, because here it does.
Calgary's climate is a stress test that happens to be a city. Start with altitude: at 1,045 metres, UV intensity runs about 10-15% higher than at sea level, and UV is what kills exterior paint — breaking down binders, chalking surfaces, fading colour. A south-facing wall in Calgary ages visibly faster than the same wall would in Toronto.
Then the chinooks: forty-degree swings in hours, several times a winter. Every material on your house expands and contracts, working caulk loose and opening hairline cracks. Paint that can't flex with the cycle fails at the joints first — which is why our exterior spec leans on flexible, high-quality coatings and obsessive sealing, not just a second coat.
Add hail — Calgary is Canada's hail capital, and a bad storm sandblasts siding and dents trim — plus freeze-thaw cycles that turn trapped moisture into paint failure by spring. Exterior season is late May through September. If the weather turns on your exterior day, we reschedule at no charge; painting into a chinook is how you buy a redo.
Calgary interiors span a century of housing stock, and each era needs its own hand. The character homes in Kensington, Inglewood, and Bridgeland have plaster walls, original trim, and details worth preserving — we restore, repair, and finish them with products chosen for old substrates. The 60s-90s bungalows and two-storeys usually want the oak trim painted and the popcorn ceilings scraped or skimmed; transformative work that we do cleanly and completely.
New builds from Evanston to Mahogany are the builder-beige story: good layouts, forgettable colour. Main floor, stairwell, primary suite — planned as one flowing palette, sampled in the actual light of each room. Calgary's big-sky light is honest, which means undertones show; we test morning, noon, and evening before committing.
Condos and townhomes get the same honest treatment — elevator bookings and building rules get planned at the visit, and the written scope covers exactly which rooms and surfaces are included.
Exterior painting in Calgary starts with reading the exposures, because the city's weather hits each wall differently. South and west walls take the UV beating; north walls stay damp and grow mildew in shaded lots; east walls get the morning sun and the driving rain. We spec per exposure — fade-resistant where it's sunny, mildew-resistant where it's damp — and the reasoning goes in the written scope.
Substrates across the city: wood siding on the character homes (scrape to sound wood, oil-prime bare spots, never trap moisture), stucco on the 80s-2000s stock (breathable coatings only), Hardie board on the new builds (straightforward, but the caulking details decide the lifespan), and aluminum that needs a bonding primer or the paint lets go in sheets.
Hail damage is worth mentioning: after a bad storm, we assess honestly whether paint or repair comes first. Painting over hail-fractured siding seals in the damage. If your insurance is involved, we'll document what we see — we're painters, not adjusters, but we know what failure looks like.
Calgary light is high, clear, and honest — altitude thins the atmosphere and the prairie sky does the rest. Colours read truer here than in most Canadian cities, which means undertones are visible: the greige goes pink at 4pm, the grey goes blue at noon. This is why we insist on large samples in the actual room, viewed across the day.
South and west rooms get strong warm light that enriches warm colours and can wash out cool ones; north rooms and shaded inner-city lots run cool and need warmth in the palette to feel inviting. We plan whole-home colour around the light each room actually receives, not the colour fan deck.
Exteriors: test on the sunniest wall at the sunniest hour. Calgary's UV will find the weakness in any colour — better to find it on a test board than on your whole house. Deep, complex colours hold up best here; they fade gracefully where bright, simple colours fade obviously.
Calgary quotes range widely because Calgary houses range widely — a 1912 Kensington character home and a 2022 Mahogany two-storey are different jobs that happen to share a postal code prefix. We don't do phone quotes or price lists. After a free visit, you get a free estimate in minutes: surfaces, prep, products per exposure, coat counts, timeline.
What drives the number most in Calgary: the age and condition of the substrate (character-home restoration is skilled hours), height and rooflines on the new two-storeys, hail and sun damage on exteriors, and the scope of interior work — a single accent wall versus a whole main floor are different planets.
More money questions? How much does it cost to paint a house in Calgary? Do you take a deposit?
Step 1
We walk the property with you, read every exposure, and bring large physical samples — tested on your walls, in your light, at different times of day.
Step 2
Written price: every surface, prep per substrate, product spec per exposure, coat counts, start date, timeline. No allowances, no TBD.
Step 3
Wash, scrape, sand, caulk, prime — matched to each substrate. On Calgary exteriors, this stage is what makes the job last.
Step 4
Cut by hand, rolled, sprayed where the finish demands it. Weather-watched daily on exteriors; we stop for chinooks rather than paint through them.
Step 5
Every wall, every room, in daylight, with you — before final payment. Touch-ups happen on the spot.
It depends on the house more than the city: age, substrate, height, condition, and scope. A Kensington character home needing wood restoration and a Mahogany new build needing a straightforward recoat are entirely different jobs. We don't quote by phone or publish price lists — after a free visit you get a free estimate in minutes with everything itemized: surfaces, prep, products, coat counts. That number doesn't move unless you change the scope.
Late May through September, when conditions reliably satisfy the product's technical data sheet — surface and air temperature, dew point, and the cure forecast — so the paint can cure. Calgary's specific wildcard is the chinook — we watch forecasts and won't apply paint ahead of a wild swing, because thermal shock during curing causes adhesion failures you'll discover in spring. Rescheduling for weather is always at no charge. Interiors are year-round.
Repair first, always. Painting over hail-fractured siding or dented trim seals the damage in and guarantees premature failure. We'll assess honestly at the visit and document what we see — if your insurance is involved, that documentation helps. Once repairs are sound, we paint. We'd rather delay a paint job than paint over damage we can see.
We're at home in old-house work — plaster repair, wood restoration, lead-safe practices where applicable, and products chosen for old substrates rather than new ones. We restore details instead of burying them, and we'll tell you honestly which original features are worth saving and what the options cost.
Absolutely — condos and townhomes are welcome. Multi-family work has its own logistics (elevator bookings, common-area protection, neighbour-friendly scheduling); we plan those with you at the visit, and the written scope covers exactly which rooms and surfaces are included.
