Bands from Huetura's estimate engine, October 2026 — the same engine behind the online estimator, run on the scopes above. Your written price locks at the in-person visit.

Why some painting quotes are dramatically lower

  1. No real prep Sanding, caulking, filling and priming bare spots are where a paint job's lifespan is decided. Skip them and the paint peels in a year or two — the cheap quote just moved its real cost onto your next repaint.
  2. One thin coat sold as two Two coats are the difference between real coverage and a colour the old wall shows through. Ask for the coats in writing — in the scope, not in the pitch.
  3. Nothing in writing A vague scope means the extras arrive mid-job — that is where the low quote grows. A real quote lists surfaces, prep, coats and exclusions, with one fixed price.
  4. Cash only, no paper trail No written scope, no receipt, no one to call back. If something fails, you have no document to point at — and no painter to call.
  5. Mystery paint The quote says quality paint but never names the product. Cheap paint covers poorly and fades fast — the product name belongs in the written scope.

What drives costs down

  1. Paint fewer rooms — the high-visibility ones first Most of the cost is labour per room. Doing the rooms guests see now and the bedrooms later can cut a project in half.
  2. Keep walls in good shape Repairs are the biggest price mover at the visit. Smooth walls in good condition price at the low end of every band.
  3. Skip ceilings and trim Walls-only is the leanest honest job. Ceilings and trim add real hours — leave them for later, or skip them.
  4. Standard ceiling height High ceilings mean ladders, scaffolding and slow cutting-in. A standard-height home sits at the bottom of every interior band.
  5. Exterior: body only — or one side of the fence A body-only exterior prices at about 70% of the full job; painting one side of a fence instead of both prices at about 60% of the two-side job. The engine prices both — ask at the visit.
  6. Move furniture yourself The furniture move-out prices per room. Move it yourself before we arrive and that line comes off the written price.

Cost questions, answered

Does trim cost extra?

The bands above are walls-only so they stay comparable — ceilings, trim, doors and furniture moves are priced at the visit. They are genuinely separate work: different setup, different cutting-in, real extra hours.

Why is there a $500 minimum?

Every job floors at a $500 minimum job charge before GST. There is a real cost to showing up with ladders, drop cloths and a sprayer — a single small room starts at $500, and small jobs do not get cheaper than that.

What does painting three rooms cost in Calgary?

$1,000 – $1,540 — walls only, standard ceilings, good condition, before GST. Every band is computed live from the same pricing engine behind our estimator; find your room count in the table above.

Why is one quote so much lower than another?

Usually it is a shorter scope, not a better price: skipped prep, one thin coat sold as two, or nothing in writing. A real quote lists surfaces, prep, coats and exclusions, with one fixed price.

Is the range on this page my final price?

No. These are preliminary ranges from the estimate engine — your written price locks at the in-person visit, once we have seen the surfaces.
